Offers spiritual and emotional support and attends, as appropriate, to the religious needs of patients and their families while coping with the stressors of hospitalization. Completes spiritual assessments, determines appropriate interventions and creates care plans. Builds relationships and supports coping strategies such as meaning making, identifying strengths and resources, and finding hope. Works to address the whole person, recognizing the unique social, cultural, and spiritual factors that influence individual resiliency.

Requirements

  • Master's Degree Requires comprehensive knowledge of theology and psychology of religion as normally acquired through completion of the prescribed course of study required for a Masters degree in Divinity, Theology or Religious Studies (ATS or regional Associations of Colleges and Schools accredited course of study) required or Four units of Clinical Pastoral Education accredited by the Association of Clinical Pastoral Education. required
  • Denominational endorsement as appropriate.
  • Advanced observational and analytical skills to assess spiritual needs and develop care plans.
  • Advanced interpersonal skills.
  • Open, inclusive and welcoming attitude regarding religious, cultural, social and economic diversity.
  • BCC-Board Certified Chaplain - Board of Chaplaincy Certification Inc within 2 Years required

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience in pediatrics, family systems, and/or child development preferred

Responsibilities

  • Collaborates as a member of the interdisciplinary clinical care team to provide spiritual, emotional and, as appropriate, religious care for patients, families and staff in accordance with hours typical of a hospital setting based on patient/family needs.
  • Completes assessments, creates clinical care plans and documents encounters appropriately in the Electronic Health Record (EHR).
  • Attends applicable medical and interdisciplinary rounds on assigned units and floors.
  • Participates in family care conferences and ethics consults, as clinically indicated.
  • Provides education and serves as a resource and guide for the interdisciplinary team in meeting the diverse spiritual and emotional needs of our patients and families.
  • Serves as a liaison for and a consultant to area clergy.
  • Collaborates, as appropriate, with family’s own clergy.
  • Maintains knowledge of professional practice and expertise.
  • Serves on committees, task forces, special projects as a representative of spiritual care.
