The Chaplain serves as a spiritual leader and compassionate caregiver within the hospital community, providing spiritual, religious, and existential care to patients, families, and staff. The role offers compassionate presence, spiritual counseling, support, and appropriate rituals, particularly during crises or grief, and advocates for spiritual needs in collaboration with the healthcare team. Care should respect diverse beliefs and contribute to holistic care. The Chaplain conducts routine and crisis-intervention pastoral care, provides sacramental ministry within their religious heritage as appropriate (including baptism and communion), provides on-call pastoral care when required, and coordinates patient-care responsibilities with other members of the Spiritual Care Department. Success requires compassion, empathetic care, adaptability to diverse spiritual needs, and effective communication with people who may be emotional, panicked, stressed, or in pain, as well as with a multidisciplinary team.
