Job Description Summary: The Chaplain Resident participates as a student in the Clinical Pastoral Education Program and provides pastoral care and spiritual support to patients, family members/significant others and staff throughout assigned OhioHealth facilities. Usually this involves development of a "parish" within the hospital assigned OhioHealth facilities. The chaplain Resident actively serves as a member of an ecumenical/interfaith pastoral care staff sharing in activities such as staff meetings, on-call responsibilities, and providing hospital wide worship experiences.

Responsibilities

  • Fully participates in the Clinical Pastoral Education Program, completing all assignments and other course requirements on time with a level of quality commensurate with graduate level education.
  • Provides ongoing, hands-on ministry to patients, families and staff through spiritual care, prayer, sacramental ministry, response to "codes" and "crisis calls," and educating and assisting patients with advance directives.
  • Shares rotation of all "on-call" responsibilities as needed.
  • Participates as member of hospital interdisciplinary teams and serves on both Pastoral Care department and general hospital wide committees.
  • Attends Pastoral Care staff meetings and educational retreats.
  • Supports and performs variety of responsibilities related to the system decedent care program where practiced, such as: grief counseling, assisting nursing and medical staff in completing necessary paperwork.
  • Serves as contact person or liaison between local clergy, patients, families and staff.
  • Participates in policy development, strategic planning, and evaluation of Pastoral Care Department.
  • Assists in responding to requests for workshops, lectures, etc. from hospital, church and community.
  • Shares responsibilities for providing a variety of worship services as appropriate e and may include memorial services.
  • As a High Reliability Organization (HRO), responsibilities require focus on safety, quality and efficiency in performing job duties.
