About The Position

This role involves providing spiritual care and support to patients, families, and staff within a palliative care setting. The chaplain will conduct spiritual assessments, offer pastoral counseling, emotional support, and perform religious rituals as requested. They will also collaborate with healthcare teams to address holistic patient needs, facilitate progress, and assist with adjustment to illness or injury. The position includes planning and leading chapel and memorial services, providing sacraments, making appropriate referrals, facilitating small groups, and providing in-service education. A commitment to ongoing learning and professional development is essential.

Requirements

  • Master's Degree of divinity or arts in theology with concentration in pastoral care
  • 2 years of relevant experience in pastoral care
  • CRT-Chaplain and Fellow - UNKNOWN
  • LIC-Driver's License - STATE_MI State of Michigan

Responsibilities

  • Conducts and records spiritual assessments of patients.
  • Provides pastoral care, counsel, emotional support, and spiritual/religious rituals to patients, families, and staff.
  • Identifies additional resources and assists with referrals.
  • Collaborates closely with departmental colleagues on shared responsibilities, referrals, charting, logging, flexibility, patient hand-offs, follow-ups, pager coverage, and mutual support.
  • Collaborates with the interdisciplinary health care team in identifying holistic approaches to patient care needs and facilitating progress or adjustment to illness/injury.
  • Plans and leads chapel and memorial services.
  • Provides sacraments as needs/requests emerge.
  • Offers appropriate referrals when a request is outside the chaplain’s ability to provide.
  • Demonstrates the ability to facilitate small groups (e.g., committee leadership, support group guidance, patient/family decision making).
  • Provides in-service education for relevant hospital units, students, personnel, and community leaders.
  • Represents the department on assigned committees and task-forces.
  • Demonstrates a commitment to ongoing learning and professional development.
  • Takes initiative in identifying and accessing relevant opportunities for learning and growth.
