About The Position

The Innovation & Transformation Office is seeking four interns to support the centralized Change Management Office. The team helps increase successful outcomes for enterprise, business unit, technology, process, and organizational changes by supporting the people side of change. Interns will contribute to change management capability building, stakeholder and communication support, project change readiness, and data and insights. Roles will be based in Minneapolis, MN and Denver, CO with a hybrid schedule, typically in office Tuesday–Thursday and virtual Monday and Friday. Xcel Energy supports a hybrid work model to enable collaboration and flexibility. Many roles are expected to work onsite three days per week (Tuesday–Thursday); however, work location expectations vary based on role, team, and business needs. Requirements

  • Current student, Senior /Grad Students (as of Fall 2027)
  • Enrolled in an accredited college or university and pursuing a degree in Human Resources, Industrial/Organizational Psychology, Organizational Development, Change Management, Business Administration, Management, Training/Learning & Development, Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, Business Analytics, Data Analytics, or related business/social science programs.
  • Able to work full-time during the summer (up to 40 hours a week)/ part time during the school year (up to 20 hours a week) and commuting to the designated work location in-person, per our hybrid work policy.

Nice To Haves

  • Interest in change management, organizational effectiveness, human behavior, employee experience, leadership, training, communications, or business transformation.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with ability to synthesize information into clear, concise deliverables.
  • Analytical mindset and comfort working with data, survey results, Excel, PowerPoint, Power BI, or similar tools.
  • Demonstrated collaboration, curiosity, accountability, empathy, and ability to work with people across different roles and backgrounds.
  • Experience with student leadership, consulting projects, research, employee engagement, communications, project management, or training/learning design.
  • Graduate-level students preferred for two of the four roles.

Responsibilities

  • Support change management activities for projects impacting employees, leaders, business units, and enterprise stakeholders.
  • Assist with stakeholder analysis, communication planning, leader engagement, training support, and change readiness activities.
  • Help organize and analyze data, survey feedback, stakeholder input, and project information to identify themes, risks, opportunities, and recommended actions.
  • Contribute to change management capability-building efforts for leaders, sponsors and individuals, including resources, templates, job aids, training materials, and leader/change champion support.
  • Support role clarity, career progression, workload evaluation, and capability alignment work across Change Management roles.
  • Create clear, executive-ready deliverables such as summaries, presentations, dashboards, recommendations, and project updates.
