About The Position

Candidates must be proficient on a string instrument, well enough to participate in the group and/or demonstrate to the student players. It is important to have a knowledge of what makes an ensemble sound good. This includes the ability to work on and “teach” rhythm, pitch, phrasing, dynamics, and social cohesiveness. An outgoing and encouraging personality is a plus. A possible performance with the group on the Saturday, June 20 chamber recital is included. Repertoire will be chosen by the faculty and assignments will be made to include several mentoring sessions by members of the camp string faculty. Anticipate two hours of coaching each day (Monday – Friday) and Saturday morning dress rehearsal, chamber group recitals, and Grand Finale Concert.

Requirements

  • Proficient on a string instrument, well enough to participate in the group and/or demonstrate to the student players.

  • Excellent musical credentials.
  • Repetitive motions.
  • Rare exposure to loud noise.
  • Ability to safely perform the physical work required of all duties with or without reasonable accommodation.

Responsibilities

  • Be on time and ready for chamber coaching sessions and lead by example.
  • Provide a welcoming and inclusive environment both socially and musically.
  • Be responsive via phone or email to staff and faculty during camp.
  • Apply basic youth development principles in working with academy students through communication, respect, and involvement.
  • Be aware of and implement all safety guidelines.
  • Follow and uphold all security rules and procedures.
  • Maintain high standards of health and safety in all activities for academy students.
  • Interact with people from a diversity of backgrounds and experience.
  • Demonstrate a strong sense of initiative and self-direction.
  • Work collaboratively with faculty, staff, and counselors throughout the week.
