About The Position

Chair of the Department of Educational Professions Frostburg State University's Department of Educational Professions is seeking talented applicants with proven leadership ability and evidence of excellence in teaching and scholarship to fill a tenure-track department chair position to begin in fall 2026. The successful candidate will be a departmental colleague who can provide effective leadership to the Educational Professions Department and will have a record suitable for hiring at the rank of associate or full professor. Credit toward tenure will be considered. Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience and qualifications; University System of Maryland benefits package included. The Department of Educational Professions undergraduate and graduate programs are accredited by the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP). The Doctor of Education in Educational Leadership within the Department is a member of the Carnegie Project on the Education Doctorate (CPED). Requirements

  • Candidates must have an earned doctoral degree in Education.
  • Minimum of 5 years of teaching experience at the collegiate level.
  • Demonstrates experience directing/coordinating a degree program at the undergraduate, graduate, or postgraduate level.
  • Demonstrates experience with assessment which leads to accreditation.
  • Demonstrates the ability to serve as a liaison between the department and college administration fostering community partnerships and professional development.

Nice To Haves

  • Demonstrated evidence of prior academic leadership experience as a department head/chair in a CAEP-accredited program.
  • Demonstrates ability to use and understand data to inform strategic planning and decision making for department.
  • Strong evidence of ability to set operational goals from strategic plans and lead direct reports to accomplish these strategic goals and initiatives.
  • A proven record of teaching and research excellence.

Responsibilities

  • The department chair must be committed to high-quality, student-centered teaching, curricular and pedagogical development, applied research, and faculty mentoring and professional development.
  • The department chair will manage the fiscal, personnel, curricular, outreach and recruitment responsibilities in a department of 20 full-time faculty and 3 staff members.
  • The department chair will lead the CAEP accreditation process.
  • The department chair will teach one course/semester with expertise in either Special Education, Educational Leadership, or Early Childhood Education.
  • Additional responsibilities include advising and mentoring undergraduate and graduate students ensuring academic progress.
