About The Position

Pottawattamie County Conservation is hiring a seasonal Chair Lift Operator Lead for the winter season, typically from November through March. This role involves supervising and operating a chair lift, assisting guests with safe boarding and disembarking, and overseeing Chairlift Operators and Attendants. The position requires performing safety checks, maintaining daily logs, ensuring guest safety and satisfaction, and managing snow surfaces at loading and unloading areas. The role is based at Crescent Hill at Hitchcock.

Requirements

  • Must be eighteen (18) years old at the time of hire.
  • Must be reliable, punctual and have own transportation.
  • Must be able to work in a cold environment for extended periods of time.
  • General knowledge of skiing and snowboarding as well as a chair lift.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to understand and follow both oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships and good rapport with individuals of all ages including supervisors, colleagues, children, and the public.

Nice To Haves

  • Ability to make very quick decisions for safe operations for guests.
  • Must be polite and helpful to all guests regardless of their ski/snowboard ability level.
  • Dress accordingly to be able to perform job duties all day in and outdoor environment during the winter months.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise chairlift operations including personnel and preparation for daily operation.
  • Assist in scheduling and monitoring schedule of lift operators and attendants.
  • Schedule and follow thru with break schedule for all lift operations personnel.
  • Supervise and assist in the proper setup of ramps including maze gates, signage, and lighting to help facilitate crowd flow in and orderly fashion.
  • Supervise and assist in preparing loading and unloading ramps both before the lift opens for guests and after it’s closed.
  • Supervise and assist in the correct procedures for starting, slowing, and stopping the chairlift.
  • Supervise and assist Parking lot attendants including training and monitoring the parking lot during busy times.
  • Work in other departments when needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Work as a team and can foster a positive, fun, and safe work environment.
  • Perform other duties as directed or as the situation dictates.
