About The Position

Mass General Brigham (MGB) is conducting an international search for the next enterprise-level Chair of the Department of Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery. MGB is an integrated academic healthcare system comprising Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH), Brigham and Women's Hospital (BWH), specialty hospitals, community hospitals, and various other healthcare services. The Department of Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery is internationally recognized for excellence across all subspecialties. The Chair will lead this department, which includes over 325 faculty members and trainees, and will also be nominated to lead the Harvard Medical School (HMS) department. The role involves sustaining and elevating the department's performance, leading its integration across MGB, and demonstrating strong operational, financial, and academic leadership. The Chair will shape the future of Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery globally.

Requirements

  • Accomplished physician, scholar, and leader.
  • Ability to advance the clinical, teaching, research, and administrative activities of the Department, MGB, and Harvard Medical School.
  • Nationally and internationally recognized as an outstanding clinician, teacher, and investigator in the field of Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery.
  • Distinguished academic credentials.
  • MD or MD/PhD degree.
  • Board certification in Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery.
  • Accomplishments in research, training, and clinical expertise commensurate with appointment to the faculty at the rank of Professor (preferred) or Associate Professor at Harvard Medical School.

Responsibilities

  • Lead one of the world's premier academic departments of Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery, integrating clinical and academic excellence across Mass Eye and Ear, Massachusetts General Hospital, Brigham and Women's Hospital, and an expanding network.
  • Oversee the academic appointments and promotions of faculty and trainees in Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery across all HMS teaching affiliates.
  • Sustain and elevate the Department's performance.
  • Lead the continued enterprise integration of the Department across Mass General Brigham.
  • Advance the clinical, teaching, research, and administrative activities of the Department, MGB, and Harvard Medical School.
  • Shape the future of Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery on a global scale.
