About The Position

Florida Atlantic University is seeking a Chair and Professor for the College of Education (COE), specifically to lead the department of Curriculum and Instruction. The Chair serves as a senior faculty member and administrator, responsible for faculty recruitment and development, curriculum and instructional program development and quality enhancement, coordination of research and service programs, personnel evaluation, and representing the department within and beyond the university. This role involves maintaining relationships with students, administrators, university councils, alumni, professional organizations, and public/private groups. The Chair collaborates with the COE dean on budget requests, manages the department's course schedule for over 15 undergraduate and graduate programs, administers allocated funds, works with program coordinators and committees, evaluates faculty and staff, and manages departmental resources. As a member of the COE's leadership team, the Chair facilitates effective relationships within and across department programs and collaborates with the dean and other leaders to guide the COE's work. Requirements

  • Doctoral Degree in Curriculum and Instruction or related area from an accredited institution.
  • Hold rank of full professor at the time of appointment.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as senior faculty member and administrator of the academic department.
  • Responsible for faculty recruitment and development.
  • Responsible for instructional program development and quality enhancement.
  • Responsible for coordination of departmental research and service programs.
  • Responsible for evaluation of personnel.
  • Represent the department within and beyond the university.
  • Maintain relationships with students, other administrators, university councils and committees, alumni, professional organizations, and various other public and private groups.
  • Develop the department's annual budget request in conjunction with the COE dean.
  • Manage the course schedule of the department’s 15+ undergraduate and graduate programs.
  • Administer expenditures of the allocated funds.
  • Work closely with department program coordinators and program committees.
  • Evaluate faculty and staff.
  • Manage other resources available to the department.
  • Facilitate effective relationships within and across department programs.
  • Work collaboratively with the dean and other unit leaders to guide the work of the COE as a member of the COE's leadership team.
