About The Position

The University of Florida’s Department of Religion in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences invites applications for a 1.0 FTE, 9-month, tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor to serve as Department Chair. This senior appointment seeks a distinguished scholar with substantial administrative and leadership experience who can provide a clear vision and guide the department’s continued growth in research, teaching, and service. Preference is given to candidates qualified for appointment as Professor with tenure; outstanding Associate Professor candidates may also be considered. Research specialization is open, with preference potentially given to expertise complementing existing departmental strengths or expanding the department’s areas of distinction. The successful candidate will provide strategic leadership, oversee undergraduate and graduate academic programs, manage budgets, personnel, and departmental operations, promote interdisciplinary collaboration, cultivate fundraising and external engagement opportunities, and support faculty development, recruitment, and retention. The department, established in 1946, is home to internationally recognized scholars working in areas including Buddhism, Islam, Hinduism, Judaism, ethics, and religion and ecology. The position offers opportunities to shape the department’s strategic position, foster innovation in teaching and research, and develop interdisciplinary initiatives. The salary is competitive and commensurate with rank and experience. Eligible faculty appointments include a benefits package with health insurance, paid leave as applicable, and retirement options. Requirements

Ph.D. in Religion or a related field.
Demonstrated administrative and leadership experience.
Strong record of scholarly achievement and publication.
Qualifications commensurate with appointment as a tenured faculty member.
For Associate Professor candidates, a strong record of scholarly productivity, relevant administrative experience, and clear interest in academic leadership.
