About The Position

Burkland is seeking a CFO Advisory Consultant to act as a long-term financial partner and advisor for clients operating under management services agreements between a Management Services Organization (MSO) and its affiliated professional corporation(s) (PCs). In this role, you will be the de-facto senior finance team member for these clients, responsible for managing financial data month-over-month, designing and implementing financial systems, providing trusted financial guidance to CEOs, physician leadership, and investors, and assisting clients in navigating the complexities of capital requirements, entity structures, compliance, payment flows, and unit economics specific to the MSO/PC model.

Requirements

  • Direct experience with MSO/PC structures, including management fee arrangements, intercompany settlements, and practice-level unit economics.
  • Experience advising clients through growth events such as fundraising, M&A, and exits.
  • 7–10 years of experience in finance/operations, preferably within healthcare growth sectors (digital health, telehealth, behavioral health/therapy services).
  • Excellent proficiency in Excel/Sheets.
  • Strong familiarity with financial technology platforms such as QBO, Carta, Rippling, Ramp, Rillet, etc.
  • Experience with current AI tools, skills, and LLMs as applied to the Office of the CFO (financial analysis, processes, accounting, reporting).
  • Strategic judgment and exceptional soft skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Other healthcare experience, particularly related to insurance reimbursements.
  • A history of managing and owning financial numbers long-term, beyond building fixed-fee FP&A models.
  • Investment banking, venture capital, or corporate development background.
  • MBA or CPA.
  • Candidates based in Austin, Boston, New York, or Northern California are preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee monthly close, budgeting, and forecasting for both the management company and affiliated PC(s).
  • Maintain clean MSO/PC economics, including intercompany billing, cost allocations, management fee settlements, and establishing clear boundaries between entities for compliance.
  • Advise the CEO and physician leadership on financial strategy, encompassing capital planning, growth initiatives, and management fee strategy and execution.
  • Lead the finance section of Board meetings, presenting MSO/PC KPI dashboards and investor updates.
  • Support fundraising and M&A activities, including sizing funding rounds, modeling various scenarios, and effectively communicating with investors and acquirers.
  • Ensure financial fundamentals are strong, covering revenue cycle, cash flow planning, vendor spend, controls, growth potential, and audit readiness.
  • Identify opportunities to integrate Burkland's bookkeeping, tax, and HR services for clients.
