About The Position

Hertha Metals is seeking an experienced modeling engineer to help develop multi-phase CFD models for their cutting-edge steelmaking technology. The role requires creativity, speed, initiative, and cross-functional teamwork in a fast-paced startup environment. This position reports to the Head of Engineering.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in physics, mechanical engineering, chemistry or materials science.
  • 10+ years of relevant modeling experience.
  • Ability to work independently to accomplish assigned tasks but ask questions when unsure of next steps.
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate observations effectively.
  • Ability to present status, action, recommendations, and other technical information.
  • Proficiency with ANSYS Fluent.
  • Familiarity with scripting languages for data manipulation.
  • Experience modeling complex fluid flows phenomena and interactions, including conservation of mass, momentum, and energy.
  • Deep understanding of different meshing strategies to optimize simulation accuracy and efficiency.
  • Ability to draw, import and manipulate CAD models for CFD models.
  • Strong knowledge of partial differential equations solutions.

Nice To Haves

  • PhD preferred.
  • Experience modeling chemical process systems with two or more miscible liquid phases.
  • Experience modeling high temperature systems.

Responsibilities

  • Develop multi-phase CFD models for cutting-edge steelmaking technology.
  • Model complex physical systems and validate the accuracy of the models.
  • Interpret data developed by the models.
  • Integrate findings into future equipment designs.
  • Work closely with research, engineering, and operations teams to gather input for the model.
  • Establish boundary conditions and develop data to validate model performance.
  • Model complex fluid flows phenomena and interactions, including conservation of mass, momentum, and energy.
  • Model chemical process systems with two or more miscible liquid phases (a plus).
  • Model high-temperature systems (a plus).
  • Utilize different meshing strategies to optimize simulation accuracy and efficiency.
  • Draw, import, and manipulate CAD models for CFD models.
  • Apply strong knowledge of partial differential equations solutions.
  • Be proficient with ANSYS Fluent.
  • Utilize scripting languages for data manipulation.
  • Be comfortable with changing priorities.
  • Build strong relationships with and positively influence equipment vendors.
