About The Position

Copper Mountain Resort is seeking AASI Level 1+2+3 Snowboard instructors for seasonal positions from December to mid-April. This role involves teaching snowboarding to youth students aged 3-17, focusing on safety, individual progression, and creating a positive guest experience. The instructor will lead group classes, adapt teaching styles to different learning needs, and manage student safety and engagement. This position requires a strong enthusiasm for snowboarding and a commitment to upholding the resort's values and mission.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Must be available to work weekends and holidays.
  • Must have at least one season of teaching experience.
  • Good physical condition.
  • Able to stand for entire shift.
  • Must be able to work in inclement weather in a high alpine environment.
  • Must be outside for long periods of time in all weather conditions.
  • Must be able to lift and carry items up to 50 lbs.
  • Must be fluent in all aspects of the English language.
  • Must have sight, speech, and hearing abilities sufficient to learn skills, follow and provide directions.
  • Must have a minimum AASI Level 1 or international equivalent.
  • Must own snowboard equipment.
  • A criminal background check will be conducted after position is accepted.

Nice To Haves

  • AASI level 1+2+3 Snowboard instructors.
  • Minimum 2 years’ instructing experience strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure the best possible experience for the Copper Mountain guest.
  • Work on an individual basis and as part of the overall mission of the resort.
  • Lead group classes while focusing on individual engagement and progression.
  • Instill confidence in teaching skiing ability to guests.
  • Provide an unsurpassed mountain vacation experience every day.
  • Develop a rapport with students quickly, establishing a connection and learning names.
  • Maintain a serious focus on safety and whereabouts of all students, weaving safety culture into teaching.
  • Use terrain to produce safe movement.
  • Identify different learning styles among students and demonstrate different teaching styles.
  • Understand and demonstrate beginner ski progressions for different age levels.
  • Identify ability levels in students and split them into groups by ability level when needed.
  • Engage the class 100% of the time, while simultaneously focusing on individual and unique student needs.
  • Read when a plan isn’t working and change course without making it a big deal.
  • Model the values, philosophy, and mission statement of Copper Mountain Resort.
  • Act as a team member, cooperating with all employees.
  • Respond quickly and effectively to a wide variety of situations including possible emergencies while maintaining composure.
  • Manage personal stress levels and maintain balance between work and personal life.
  • Supervise children in class always, assisting at lunch and snack times, and ensuring return of children to identified guardian.
  • Assist in operational responsibilities of Ski & Ride programs including registration, directing guests to equipment fitting, upkeep of outdoor teaching areas, and cleanliness of facilities.
  • Assist other departments in their operational responsibilities when needed, including Events/Competitions and Lift Operations.
  • Function as an ambassador of Copper Mountain, modeling and sharing the Copper “culture” with guests and employees.
  • Uphold the most professional image.
  • Continually strive to exceed guest expectations and create memories for guests and staff.
