About The Position

Big-D Heavy Industrial is looking for a Certified Welding Inspector to join our growing team. The Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) is responsible for ensuring all welding activities comply with project specifications, approved welding procedures, applicable codes, and client requirements. The CWI performs inspections, coordinates non-destructive testing (NDT), verifies welder qualifications, and maintains accurate quality documentation throughout fabrication and construction activities.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED (technical degree preferred).
  • AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification required.
  • 5+ years of welding inspection experience in industrial, mining, energy, or heavy construction projects.
  • Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States.

Nice To Haves

  • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 preferred.
  • NDT Level II certifications (UT, MT, PT, RT) preferred.
  • Experience with quality management software and digital inspection systems.
  • Strong understanding of welding processes (SMAW, GTAW, GMAW, FCAW, SAW).
  • Knowledge of AWS, ASME, API, ASTM, and project specifications.
  • Ability to interpret construction drawings and isometrics.
  • Working knowledge of NDT methods.
  • Excellent attention to detail and documentation skills.
  • Effective communication with field personnel and clients.

Responsibilities

  • Perform visual inspections before, during, and after welding activities.
  • Verify compliance with approved WPS, PQR, and applicable welding codes.
  • Monitor fit-up, joint preparation, preheat, welding parameters, and post-weld activities.
  • Identify weld defects and recommend corrective actions.
  • Verify completed welds meet acceptance criteria.
  • Coordinate and witness Radiographic Testing (RT), Ultrasonic Testing (UT), Magnetic Particle Testing (MT), and Liquid Penetrant Testing (PT).
  • Review and validate NDT reports.
  • Monitor third-party testing contractors.
  • Verify welder certifications and continuity records.
  • Witness welder performance qualification tests.
  • Ensure only qualified welders perform welding activities.
  • Maintain inspection reports and weld logs.
  • Track repair rates and non-conformance reports (NCRs).
  • Verify material traceability.
  • Support turnover and project closeout documentation.
  • Ensure compliance with company safety requirements.
  • Participate in audits and client inspections.
  • Assist with corrective and preventive action implementation.
