Construction Inspectors spend most of their time on construction projects performing inspections that require specific certifications and/or experience. The role involves monitoring construction quality and adherence to building codes, drawings, and project specifications. Inspections may span disciplines such as structural steel, concrete, masonry, and fireproofing, and may include visual or physical inspections and field testing. The inspector documents observations and material testing, communicates findings to the engineer or project manager, and may collaborate with the project team on solutions to potential issues. The role requires adherence to strict safety standards. The inspector performs testing, observation, and inspection according to training and specified procedures; interprets construction drawings and specifications; prepares reports and documents nonconformance; and performs basic data analysis to check accuracy before submitting results. The position may involve communicating with clients and site personnel, helping develop testing and inspection scopes, coordinating pre-dispatch activities, maintaining and calibrating equipment, and leading other engineering technicians on larger projects. The inspector drives to project sites, maintains assigned equipment and vehicle, and submits clear, accurate daily documentation while following applicable safety and quality requirements.
