About The Position

The Certified Welding Inspector is responsible for ensuring welded products meet required quality standards, specifications, and applicable codes. This role inspects welding procedures, workmanship, materials, and documentation to verify compliance with AWS, ASME, customer, and internal requirements while supporting production and continuous improvement efforts.

Requirements

  • Current AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification
  • Strong knowledge of welding processes (MIG, TIG, Stick, Flux-Core, etc.)
  • Ability to read and interpret fabrication drawings and weld symbols
  • Familiarity with welding codes and quality standards
  • Excellent attention to detail and documentation skills
  • Strong communication and problem-solving abilities
  • Ability to work in a manufacturing/shop environment

Responsibilities

  • Perform visual inspections of welds before, during, and after welding operations
  • Verify compliance with applicable codes and standards (AWS D1.1, D1.2, D1.6, ASME, customer specs, etc.)
  • Review and interpret blueprints, weld symbols, specifications, and procedures
  • Verify Welder Qualifications (WQTRs) and Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS)
  • Document inspection results and maintain accurate inspection records
  • Identify non-conforming welds and issue corrective actions as required
  • Communicate inspection findings clearly to welders, supervisors, and management
  • Support root-cause analysis and corrective/preventive actions
  • Coordinate with third-party inspectors or customers during audits or inspections
  • Ensure measuring and inspection tools are properly maintained and calibrated
  • Promote safety, quality awareness, and best welding practices on the shop floor
