About The Position

Intertek, a leading provider of quality and safety solutions, is seeking a Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) to join their Industry Services team in Austin, Texas. This role is part of the Asset Integrity Management (AIM) team, which supports asset life management for infrastructure, facilities, and equipment throughout their lifecycle. Intertek offers comprehensive Total Quality Assurance services across various sectors. The Certified Welding Inspector will perform welding inspections and quality oversight for a new construction direct buried chilled water piping project, adhering to ASME B31.1 requirements and project specifications. Responsibilities include daily reporting, maintaining weld tracking documentation, and contributing to project quality and safety goals. The project is located in Austin, TX, with an estimated duration of 12 weeks and an approximate start date around June 10, 2026. The work schedule is 5 days per week, 10-hour shifts.

Requirements

  • Current AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification
  • Demonstrated experience with ASME B31.1 piping systems
  • Experience with new construction piping projects
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Strong understanding of welding procedures, weld documentation, and quality control processes
  • Proficient with daily reporting and weld tracking documentation
  • Strong communication and organizational skills
  • Commitment to safety and quality workmanship
  • Ability to work a 5x10 schedule for the duration of the project
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable driving record required
  • Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with piping isometrics and weld maps
  • Experience coordinating with NDE personnel and turnover teams
  • Industrial piping inspection experience preferred

Responsibilities

  • Perform visual weld inspections in accordance with ASME B31.1 and project specifications
  • Monitor welding activities for compliance with approved WPSs and applicable procedures
  • Verify welder qualifications and welding documentation
  • Maintain detailed weld logs including weld numbers, welder IDs, WPS utilized, material traceability, NDE status, repair tracking, and weld completion status
  • Generate accurate daily inspection reports documenting work progress, quality issues, and field observations
  • Coordinate with project management, QA/QC personnel, and field supervision
  • Identify and document non-conforming conditions
  • Verify proper material handling and fit-up practices
  • Assist with turnover documentation and final quality records as required
  • Maintain a strong commitment to safe work practices and site safety requirements
