About The Position

West Main Animal Hospital is seeking an experienced Certified Veterinary Technician (CVT) to join our team as a Surgical Lead. This role will take ownership of surgical and procedure workflow while providing clinical leadership, training, and mentorship to the technician team. This is an excellent opportunity for a technician who wants to fully utilize their skillset with autonomy, trust, and support in a fast-paced, collaborative general practice environment. The Surgical Lead will help ensure procedures run efficiently and safely while serving as a resource and mentor for fellow technicians. From induction through recovery, you will play a critical role in delivering high-quality patient care alongside a veterinary team that values skilled technicians.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of veterinary technician experience
  • Active and good-standing Certified Veterinary Technician in the state of Oregon
  • Proficiency in patient assessment, nursing care, and monitoring
  • Proficiency in anesthetic induction, monitoring, and recovery
  • Proficiency in surgical assistance and aseptic technique
  • Proficiency in dental prophylaxis and dental radiography
  • Proficiency in venipuncture and intravenous catheter placement
  • Proficiency in radiology positioning and safety protocols
  • Proficiency in medication administration and accurate drug calculations
  • Proficiency in laboratory sample collection and in-house diagnostic testing
  • Effective teamwork and professional communication skills
  • Commitment to high-quality patient care and continuous learning

Nice To Haves

  • Recent graduates pending VTNE testing and licensure, or out-of-state license-holders who are eligible to transfer a license, are also encouraged to apply

Responsibilities

  • Managing daily surgical and procedure workflow, including scheduling, case preparation, and coordination with the veterinary team
  • Preparing surgical and procedure areas and ensuring equipment and supplies are ready for each case
  • Calculating and preparing anesthetic medications and drug dosages
  • Inducing, monitoring, and recovering anesthesia patients
  • Assisting veterinarians during surgical procedures
  • Performing dental prophylaxis and dental radiography
  • Monitoring patient recovery and ongoing procedural care
  • Managing surgical and procedural inventory, including maintaining appropriate stock levels and coordinating supply orders
  • Training and mentoring CVTs and veterinary assistants in surgical, anesthesia, and procedural protocols
  • Serving as a clinical resource for the technician team and helping promote consistent, high-quality patient care
  • Guiding clients through patient admission and discharge with confidence and compassion
