About The Position

Instructs and directs the activities of students to help them achieve maximum academic success, in accordance with Tennessee Department of Education (TDOE), or other program guidelines. This position description is not intended to be an exhaustive list of all duties, knowledge or abilities associated with this classification, but are intended to accurately reflect the primary job elements. The role involves working before and after school hours in the Extended Learning Programs (ELP) for students at an assigned site, adhering to Tennessee State Department of Education standards for School-Administered Child Care and public extended day programs. The tutor will create individualized tutoring plans, assess student progress, and provide academic support. Responsibilities include developing and assisting students with exercises, reinforcing classroom teacher's instruction, and utilizing effective teaching and behavior management strategies. Data collection for accountability and program development, as well as effective communication with school staff, are also key aspects of the role. A minimum of eighteen (18) hours of professional development is required each school year.

Requirements

  • Graduated from an accredited college or university with Bachelor’s degree.
  • Valid Tennessee professional teacher’s license.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of successful classroom experience.

Responsibilities

  • Works before and after school hours ELP, the Extended Learning Programs (ELP) for students at an assigned site in accordance with the Tennessee State Department of Education standards of School-Administered Child Care (Chapter 0520-12-01) and the public extended day outline.
  • Generates tutoring plans for each student that details individual goals and suggested enrichment activities for both home and during school; assesses and documents student progress.
  • Develops and assists students with academic exercises and class activities; concentrates efforts with small groups of students and individuals, as necessary.
  • Compiles, prepares, and organizes materials and classroom for instruction and other learning activities.
  • Reinforces all knowledge and skills taught by the classroom teacher.
  • Assists teacher with academic instruction and the instruction of daily routines, skills, and concepts as needed.
  • Provides instructional support and reinforcement to students identified in need of tutoring services.
  • Utilizes effective instructional practices, behavior management strategies, assessment techniques and directed teaching methods.
  • Collects and compiles statistical data as needed for accountability and program development.
  • Collects, organizes, and completes information necessary for reports and evaluation.
  • Communicates and collaborates effectively with teachers, central office staff and local school administrators.
  • Completes at least eighteen (18) hours of professional development each school year.
