About The Position

The Certified Surgical Technologist functions as the scrub person and works under the supervision of the surgeon and registered nurse. The role helps ensure the operating room is safe, equipment functions properly, and procedures are conducted in conditions that maximize patient safety. It requires expertise in surgical technique, human anatomy, surgical procedures, and the use of tools and technologies to support safe care during invasive therapeutic and diagnostic procedures. The position may float to Labor and Delivery if needed.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technologist program or an equivalent military surgical technologist program.
• American Heart Association BLS certification.
• Certified Surgical Technologist.

Responsibilities

• Ensure case carts are completed according to preference cards.
• Interpret preference cards to procure the required instruments and supplies.
• Communicate with operating room and sterile processing staff to coordinate instrumentation for scheduled and unscheduled cases.
• Review the daily schedule with the charge nurse and sterile processing day coordinator to identify potential turnover delays and scheduling issues.
• Manage the core phone and related communications, delegate duties as appropriate, and coordinate breaks and lunches with the appropriate staff.
• Serve as a resource for Sterile Processing and Surgical Services to procure supplies and instruments for scheduled and unscheduled surgical procedures.
• Communicate and coordinate with Materials Management regarding supply utilization and deployment.
