About The Position

The Salary On-Call Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) plays a vital role in the surgical team by ensuring the operating room is prepared and sterile, assisting during procedures, and supporting urgent and emergent cases during on-call hours. This salaried position includes scheduled on-call shifts to provide coverage outside of regular operating hours, ensuring continuity of care and readiness for surgical interventions.

Requirements

  • Certified Surgical Technologists
  • One (1) year of scrub experience
  • Educational and clinical training with documentation for surgical assisting and/or proof of completion of Military training as an Operating Room Specialist (68-D) plus 3 years of experience in the operating room environment
  • Case history must be provided by the potential employee
  • Graduation from an accredited surgical technology program or surgical technology military program
  • A minimum of two years work experience within an operating room setting required
  • Credentialed as a Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) by the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (formerly LCC-ST) required and must be maintained
  • Current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or American Red Cross BLS for Healthcare Providers certification is required

Nice To Haves

  • The Level II practitioner demonstrates a higher level of critical thinking and problem solving skills and has met the Level I Certified Surgical Technologist criteria.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares surgical set-up for procedures
  • Observes and anticipates the needs of the surgeon during the procedure
  • Functions within a sterile field
  • Functions as a surgical assistant
  • Drapes patients for surgical procedures and assists the surgical team during operative procedures
  • Cleans and prepares rooms between procedures and after terminal cleaning
  • Maintains and cares for equipment and supplies
  • Documents maintenance and repairs and troubleshoots equipment needs when necessary
  • Performs assisting duties within the scope of a practicing CST Level II
  • Performs other duties as assigned
