About The Position

Franciscan Health Munster Campus is seeking a Certified Surgical Technologist First Assist to provide quality operative care to patients. The role may involve on-call shifts and duties ranging from first assisting to primary scrubbing. It calls for sound judgment, adaptability, and diligence in the operating room. The position maintains counts of sponges, sharps, and instruments with the circulating nurse; helps care for, clean, organize, assemble, use, and sterilize instruments and equipment; and collaborates with the circulator on preparation and planning based on patient, procedure, and physician needs. The technologist demonstrates the technical skills needed to assist the surgeon and anticipate needs during routine, complex, specialty, and emergency procedures, provides visualization of the operative site, and follows Universal Precautions guidelines.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED.
Graduation from an accredited Surgical Technologist program.
Certified Surgical First Assistant (CSFA) credential.
National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) certification.
Basic Life Support (BLS) through the American Heart Association.

Nice To Haves

One year of surgery experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

Maintain correct counts of sponges, sharps, and instruments with the circulating nurse according to established procedure.
Help maintain and organize instruments and equipment through proper care, cleaning, utilization, assembly, and sterilization.
Collaborate and participate with the circulator in planning and preparation based on the patient's needs, the surgical procedure, and physician preference.
First assist the surgeon and anticipate needs during routine, complex, specialty, and emergency procedures.
Provide visualization of the operative site.
Perform duties in accordance with Universal Precautions Administrative Guideline.
