About The Position

The Certified Surgical Technician (CST Specialist) - Part Time role at Texas Health Plano involves assisting the RN circulator in formulating a plan of care, preparing and organizing the operating room, and providing peri-operative care for a diverse patient population. The position requires adherence to professional nursing practice standards, proper post-operative care of instruments and supplies, and assisting RN circulators with post-operative duties under supervision. Requirements

High School Diploma or equivalent and was employe to practice surgical technology in a health care facility before September 1, 2009, required or Other – Graduate of an accredited surgery technology program, vocational nurse program or graduate/completion of a military training program in surgical technology required
2 years of experience in a surgical service specialty (robotics, cardiovascular/hearts, orthopedic, neurology) with a minimum of 150 cases performed in that specialty required.
CST – Certified Surgical Technologist/ CST (NBSTSA) or TS-C (NCCT) upon hire required or CST – Certified Surgical Technologist CST (NBSTSA) or TS-C (NCCT) and was employed to practice surgical technology in a health care facility before September 1, 2009, upon hire required or CST – Certified Surgical Technologist CST (NBSTSA) or TS-C (NCCT) and was employed to practice surgical technology in a health care facility before September 1, 2009, upon hire required or LVN – Licensed Vocational Nurse upon hire required
BCLS – Basic Cardiac Life Support prior to providing independent patient care and maintained quarterly upon hire required

Responsibilities

Preoperatively assists R.N. circulator in formulating a plan of care.
Prepare and organize the operating room.
Assists in providing peri-operative care for a patient population that includes infants, pediatrics, adults, and geriatrics.
Assists as needed in coordinating patient care peri-operatively.
Assumes responsibility and accountability for behavior to maintain standards for professional nursing practice.
Post-operatively follows proper procedures for the care of instruments, supplies, and equipment.
Under supervision, assists RN circulators with post-operative duties.
