About The Position

Harris Regional Medical Center is part of Lifepoint Health, a diversified healthcare delivery network. As a Certified Surgical Technologist joining our team, you're embracing a vital mission dedicated to making communities healthier. The operating room is equipped with six beds, with a dedicated C-section and Urology OR suites, and Endoscopy procedure suite. We have an average of 400 cases per month. The scope of procedures includes a diverse range of specialties: Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT), Cataract and Retinal Eye surgeries, Gynecologic, Laparoscopic and Endoscopic, Orthopedic including robotic assisted total joints, Pain Management, Podiatry, and Gastroenterological surgeries. The majority of cases are general and orthopedic. Surgical operations are conducted Monday through Friday, with additional night, weekend, and holiday call rotations to ensure continuous coverage. Additionally, the implantation of a dedicated call team for weeknights and weekends allows for a minimal call requirement from core staff, as well as promoting an excellent work/life balance.

Requirements

  • Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) credential through the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting required.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required within one month of hire;
  • High school diploma or equivalent required;
  • Strong understanding of infection prevention, patient safety standards, and accurate instrument, sponge, and sharps counts in compliance with hospital policies and regulatory guidelines.
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills to work with surgeons, nurses, anesthesia providers, and other members of the healthcare team in routine and emergency situations.
  • Ability to remain calm, organized, and adaptable in fast-paced surgical environments while managing case preparation, intraoperative support, and operating room turnover.
  • Strong manual dexterity and attention to detail, with the physical capability to lift up to 50 pounds, stand or walk for extended periods, and safely handle equipment and supplies.

Nice To Haves

  • graduation from an accredited surgical technology program preferred.
  • Relevant years of experience may be substituted for required education or certification.
  • Minimum of 6 months of experience in a surgical or healthcare setting preferred, with knowledge of surgical instrumentation, sterile technique, aseptic practices, and maintenance of the sterile field.

Responsibilities

  • The Surgical Technician is responsible for setting up surgical procedures, scrubbing on cases and performing appropriate functions to facilitate the flow of surgical patients.
  • Included within this assignment is the responsibility for ensuring effective communication between him or her and the circulating nurse, the patient, other staff, physician and other hospital departments.
  • Prepares the operating room by setting up sterile instruments, supplies, and equipment while maintaining strict aseptic technique and infection prevention standards.
  • Scrubs on surgical procedures, maintaining the sterile field and anticipating the needs of the surgeon by efficiently passing instruments and sterile supplies.
  • Performs and participates in accurate instrument, sponge, and sharps counts according to patient safety standards and hospital policy.
  • Assists with patient positioning, skin preparation, and sterile draping to support safe surgical procedures.
  • Handles, labels, and prepares surgical specimens properly for laboratory analysis according to established protocols.
  • Collaborates with the Registered Nurse, circulating nurse, anesthesia providers, physicians, and other departments to ensure safe and efficient surgical workflow.
  • Supports operating room turnover by cleaning, restocking supplies, ensuring equipment readiness, and adhering to professional standards including The Joint Commission (TJC) requirements and hospital training.
