About The Position

The Certified Surgical Tech First Assistant (CSTFA) is a specialized technician whose practice extends perioperative nursing. The role uses specific technical skills to assist the surgeon with intraoperative procedures beyond the scope of a Certified Surgical Technician without CSTFA education and training. The CSTFA works interdependently with the surgeon, applying knowledge, skill, and judgment to help perform safe operations and achieve optimal patient outcomes. The position provides care for patients of all ages and may provide leadership and direction to the perioperative team during the perioperative phase as needed. The CSTFA does not concurrently function as the Scrub Tech.

This is a full-time, 40-hour-per-week day-shift position at Wellington Regional Medical Center, a 235-bed acute care hospital in Wellington, Florida. Requirements

• Graduate of a surgical technology program.
• Graduate of an accredited Surgical First Assisting program.
• Surgical Technician certification required.
• First Assist certification required.
• 3–5 years of operating room experience.
• Current American Heart Association BLS certification.

Responsibilities

• Assist the surgeon with specific intraoperative procedures beyond the scope of practice of Certified Surgical Technicians without CSTFA education and training.
• Provide intraoperative surgical first assisting, working interdependently with the surgeon to support safe operations and optimal patient outcomes.
• Provide patient care for patients of all ages.
• Provide leadership and direction to the perioperative team during the perioperative phase as needed.
• Do not concurrently function as the Scrub Tech.
