About The Position

This is a part-time Certified Surgical Technician (CST Specialist) position located in the Surgery Department at Texas Health Plano. The role involves assisting the RN circulator in formulating a plan of care, preparing and organizing the operating room, providing peri-operative care for a diverse patient population, coordinating patient care, and following proper procedures for the care of instruments, supplies, and equipment post-operatively. Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent and was employe to practice surgical technology in a health care facility before September 1, 2009, required or Other – Graduate of an accredited surgery technology program, vocational nurse program or graduate/completion of a military training program in surgical technology required
  • 2 years of experience in a surgical service specialty (robotics, cardiovascular/hearts, orthopedic, neurology) with a minimum of 150 cases performed in that specialty required.
  • CST – Certified Surgical Technologist/ CST (NBSTSA) or TS-C (NCCT) upon hire required or CST – Certified Surgical Technologist CST (NBSTSA) or TS-C (NCCT) and was employed to practice surgical technology in a health care facility before September 1, 2009, upon hire required or CST – Certified Surgical Technologist CST (NBSTSA) or TS-C (NCCT) and was employed to practice surgical technology in a health care facility before September 1, 2009, upon hire required or LVN – Licensed Vocational Nurse upon hire required
  • BCLS – Basic Cardiac Life Support prior to providing independent patient care and maintained quarterly upon hire required
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills including the ability to communicate effectively and professionally across disciplines.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • A high degree of confidentiality with the ability to function in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple demands as well as respond to rapidly changing priorities.
  • Service orientation and demonstrated ability to respond to the needs and emotions of people under stress.

Responsibilities

  • Preoperatively assists R.N. circulator in formulating a plan of care.
  • Prepare and organize the operating room.
  • Assists in providing peri-operative care for a patient population that includes infants, pediatrics, adults, and geriatrics.
  • Assists as needed in coordinating patient care peri-operatively.
  • Assumes responsibility and accountability for behavior to maintain standards for professional nursing practice.
  • Post-operatively follows proper procedures for the care of instruments, supplies, and equipment.
  • Under supervision, assists RN circulators with post-operative duties.
