About The Position

The Surgical Technologist (certified or licensed) serves as a member of the surgical team, responds to patient needs, prepares and maintains resources (e.g., equipment, instruments, supplies) and provides safe, quality health care services and/or assistance for surgical procedures in accordance with level of experience, education, policies/procedures/protocols and standards. This role performs clinical care activities (direct or indirect) for patients within the scope of practice laws and training received. They care for patients safely by assisting in clinical care services or engaging in administrative activities (e.g., maintaining records or supplies) that enhance or improve coordination, preparation, and flow of the care experience. The Surgical Technologist knows, understands, and incorporates basic or essential area of practice (document, coordinate, communicate) and training standards. They use clear, effective, respectful language and communication methods/means. They perform work in a safe, engaging, collaborative, and supportive manner; influence the responsible use of resources; and are accountable for continuous self-development and supporting the growth of others. They maintain a working knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local laws/regulations, Trinity Health Integrity and Compliance Program and Code of Conduct, as well as other policies, procedures, and guidelines to ensure adherence in a manner that reflects honest, ethical, and professional behavior and safe work practices.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED
  • Current certification from accredited Surgical Technology program
  • At least one (1) year experience in a health care or military medical setting
  • Meets requirements for applicable state(s) of engagement
  • Ability to follow tasks through to completion
  • Ability to understand and relate to complex ideas/concepts
  • Ability to remember multiple tasks and regimens over long periods of time
  • Ability to work on concurrent tasks/projects
  • Ability to read small print
  • Ability to hear sounds and voice/speech patterns
  • Ability to give/receive instructions and other verbal communications (in-person and/or over the phone/computer/device/equipment assigned) with some background noise
  • Perform manual dexterity activities and/or grasping/handling
  • Use a computer / other technology
  • Maintain a safe working environment and use available personal protective equipment (PPE)

  • Ability to provide assistance in the event of an emergency

  • Perform work that involves physical efforts (e.g., transporting, moving, positioning & / or ambulating patients)

Responsibilities

  • Serves as a member of the surgical team.
  • Responds to patient needs.
  • Prepares and maintains resources (e.g., equipment, instruments, supplies).
  • Provides safe, quality health care services and/or assistance for surgical procedures.
  • Performs clinical care activities (direct or indirect) for patients within the scope of practice laws and training received.
  • Cares for patients safely by assisting in clinical care services or engaging in administrative activities (e.g., maintaining records or supplies) that enhance or improve coordination, preparation, and flow of the care experience.
  • Supports the total peri-operative process.
  • Provides intra-operative patient care to patients as directed by the Director of Nursing / Medical Director / Quality Committee(s).
  • Anticipates surgeon’s needs in the use of medical supplies, instrumentation, and equipment availability and readiness.
  • Maintains a safe and clean operating room suite.
  • Assists and/or ensures documentation and detailed records are kept.
  • Performs essential duties and techniques appropriate to role / function / procedure.
  • Participates in quality improvement processes.
  • May serve as a resource (lead), role model, and/or mentor.
