About The Position

This is a Per Diem position for an SPD Tech Certified. The role involves demonstrating technical competency in sterile technique, equipment functioning, and assisting physicians during procedures. The technician will be responsible for maintaining inventory levels, utilizing downtime constructively, and troubleshooting equipment malfunctions. Key responsibilities include maintaining supply levels, anticipating needs, cleaning equipment and instruments, and participating in the evaluation of new supplies. The position also requires providing a safe and therapeutic environment for patients, assisting with patient transfers and positioning, and collaborating in room preparation to ensure efficient turnover times. A strong understanding of sterilization and high-level disinfection processes, including the use of indicators and monitoring logs, is essential. The technician will be expected to inform the charge nurse of any deviations from parameters and seek learning opportunities to contribute to the center's quality outcomes. The role also includes functioning as an endoscopy technician and scope processor, managing priorities independently, and ensuring efficient patient flow. Communication with patients should be consistent with their age, cultural, spiritual, and developmental needs. Additional duties include answering telephones, scheduling appointments, stocking supplies, and assisting with ordering and maintaining supplies. Flexibility with various work schedules is also required.

Requirements

High School Graduate/GED required
One year’s related clinical experience in cleaning scopes recommended.
Basic Life Support (BLS) required.
Certified SPD Technician
Ability to communicate in English, both orally and in writing.
Able to handle confidential information.
Ability to maintain good health and consistent attendance.
Successfully completes initial competency verification for clinical area
Maintains cooperative working relationship with all personnel.

Nice To Haves

Associate Degree preferred.
Endoscope Reprocessor - or obtain within 1 year of employment

Responsibilities

Demonstrates technical competency
Applies principles of basic aseptic technique in adhering to sterile technique (gowning, gloving, draping)
Checks that all equipment is functioning prior to use
Assists physician with equipment during procedure
Maintains appropriate inventory level for supplies and facilitates the acquisition of supplies
Utilizes down time constructively
Maintains proficiency with unit specific equipment, trouble shoots and reports malfunctions.
Maintains supply levels in room
Anticipates need, selects equipment, and supplies in an organized and timely manner
Cleans all equipment and instruments prior to and after use
Participates in the evaluation of new supplies, equipment, and instruments
Provides a safe and therapeutic environment for patients
Assists in transfer and positioning of patients
Collaborates in room preparation
Turnover time is within acceptable timeframe
Demonstrates knowledge and correct utilization of all phases of sterilization/ high level disinfection.
Chooses correct method and time frame for cleaning of equipment and accessories.
Utilizes correct indicators for methods chosen
Demonstrates safe use of equipment
Demonstrates good judgement and reasoning when investigating and solving problems.
Maintains appropriate monitoring logs according to high disinfection methods
Informs charge nurse of any deviations from specified sterilization /high disinfection parameters
Seeks learning opportunities and demonstrates skill level contributing to the center’s quality excellence outcomes.
Attends seminars and meetings relevant to scope washing.
Able to function as an endoscopy technician and scope processor.
Consistently shows ability to recognize and deal with priorities.
Performs all duties in an independent manner with minimal direction and supervision.
Maintains efficient patient flow.
Ensures proper preparation for patient visit.
Prepares pertinent information needed for patient visit.
Communicates & provides care consistent with age, cultural, spiritual, and developmental needs of the patient.
Answers the telephone in an appropriate manner. Directs calls and/or takes accurate messages.
