About The Position

Certified Surgical First Assists work in the operating room to assist the surgeon and other team members with tasks within their scope of practice. They anticipate the needs of the surgeon and the operating room team. Certified Surgical First Assists use their skills and knowledge to deliver safe and effective care for patients during surgical procedures.

Requirements

  • Certification in Surgical Technology required.
  • CSFA Certification required
  • BLS required prior to first clinical shift (must be issued by the American Heart Association)

Nice To Haves

  • Associates Degree in Surgical Technology preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide positioning assistance to other team members prior to procedure.
  • Ensuring all necessary equipment, instruments, and supplies are available for use prior to procedure start.
  • Perform prepping and draping as appropriate for procedures and at surgeon’s discretion.
  • Anticipating needs during procedures and request in a timely manner.
  • Utilize skills to provide assistance in areas such as exposure, wound closure, injection of local anesthetics, tissue handling, trocar insertion, and other tasks within their scope of practice.
  • Performing tasks after the procedure including applying dressing, transfer assistance, and room cleaning.
  • Collaborating with others to provide best quality outcomes.
  • Assist in room setup to include but not limited to, pulling necessary items, opening instruments, setting up back tables, and other duties as needed.
  • Will work at multiple BMH locations as needed
