About The Position

The Certified Surgical First Assistant works in the Main Operating Room at Ascension Saint Thomas Midtown in Nashville, Tennessee, providing advanced assistance to surgeons during complex procedures. The role supports intraoperative care through tissue manipulation, retraction, and suctioning, and helps maintain patient safety and surgical visibility by positioning patients and stabilizing equipment. The assistant also prepares operating rooms according to surgeon preferences and supports sterile, efficient room turnarounds.

The position is scheduled for nights and is full-time. A $15,000 sign-on bonus is offered.

Requirements

• BLS Provider certification obtained within 30 days of hire or job transfer; American Heart Association or American Red Cross credentials are accepted.
• Certified First Surgical Assistant credential obtained before hire or job transfer. Accepted certifying organizations are the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting, the American Board of Surgical Assistants, or the National Commission for the Certification of Surgical Assistants. Employees hired or transferred before 5/30/21 are not required to hold certification.
• High school diploma equivalency with two years of cumulative experience, or an associate's/technical degree, or four years of applicable cumulative job-specific experience.

Responsibilities

• Provide advanced assistance to surgeons during complex procedures, including tissue manipulation, retraction, and suctioning.
• Prepare or customize the operating room to meet surgeon preferences.
• Manage sterile operating-room turnarounds and help ensure readiness for the next case.
• Position patients and stabilize equipment to provide surgical exposure while prioritizing patient safety, dignity, and comfort.
