About The Position

Sentara Ambulatory Surgery BelleHarbour is hiring a Certified Surgical Assistant I in Suffolk, Virginia. This is a full-time position. A sign-on bonus of up to $7,500 for new graduates and up to $15,000 for experienced candidates (1 year) is available for qualified individuals. The schedule is Monday-Friday, 7 am-4 pm, with no call requirements, holidays, or weekends. The Certified Surgical Assistant anticipates the needs of the surgical team and assists the surgeon with tasks such as selecting equipment, setting up tables and positioning equipment, providing retraction for visualization of the surgical site, cauterizing bleeding vessels, suturing and closing incisions, instilling medications, and applying surgical dressings, splints, and casts. In addition to intraoperative duties, the surgical assistant also performs preoperative and postoperative duties to facilitate proper patient care and uses effective interdisciplinary communication to achieve optimal patient outcomes.

Requirements

• TS – Trade School Graduate CAAHEP – Surgical Assistant (required)
• Licensed Surgical Assistant – Virginia (required)
• Certified Surgical Assistant (CSA) - Certifications - National Commission for the Certification of Surgical Assistants (NCCSA) OR Certified Surgical First Assistant (CSFA) - Certifications - National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA)
• Demonstrates in depth clinical and technical skills in surgical fields
• Uses effective interdisciplinary communication to facilitate optimal patient outcomes required

Nice To Haves

• 3 years of Operating room experience (preferred)
• Participate in departmental improvement efforts preferred

Responsibilities
