About The Position

The Certified Respiratory Therapist, Registry Eligible performs basic therapeutic, diagnostic, and life support respiratory care procedures for patients of all ages in general and critical care settings. The Certified Respiratory Therapist, Registry Eligible Performs therapeutic, diagnostic, and respiratory care procedures in accordance with physician orders, department policies, and established protocols. Assesses patients and monitors the effectiveness of respiratory therapy interventions, recognizing and responding appropriately to changes in patient condition or adverse reactions. Provides respiratory support and life support modalities safely and effectively to patients of all ages. Demonstrates knowledge of lifespan growth and development and provides age-appropriate respiratory care based on each patient's individual needs. Educates patients, families, and caregivers regarding respiratory conditions, treatments, procedures, and equipment to promote understanding and participation in care. Documents patient assessments, treatments, responses, and other required information accurately, completely, and in a timely manner. Performs cleaning, preventive maintenance, and operational verification of respiratory equipment. Identifies equipment malfunctions and initiates appropriate corrective action. Performs documentation, charging, filing, scheduling, and other operational responsibilities as assigned. Participates in quality improvement activities and maintains clinical competency through continuing education and annual competency validation. Assists with the orientation of new employees and provides guidance to students, volunteers, contract staff, and support personnel as assigned. Communicates effectively with patients, families, physicians, and members of the interdisciplinary healthcare team while maintaining the confidentiality of patient information in accordance with HIPAA and organizational policies.

Requirements

  • Associate degree or certificate in Respiratory Therapy from a CoARC (Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care) accredited program required.
  • None required.
  • Licensed Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) by the Virginia Board of Medicine required.
  • Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) credential from the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) required.
  • Must obtain Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential from the NBRC within 12 months of employment.
  • Effective interpersonal, communication, customer service, and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to prioritize work, function effectively in a fast-paced environment, and provide compassionate, patient-centered care.
