About The Position

Crossing Rivers Health is seeking a part-time Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) to join their team. This position is .74 FTE, working 2 weeks on and 2 weeks off, totaling 26 weeks on and 26 weeks off per year. The role involves a shared call rotation, typically alternating first call during the working weeks. The CRNA will be independently responsible for providing anesthesia services, including surgical anesthetics (regional, specialty blocks, GETA, Local/MAC), obstetric anesthesia (intrathecal narcotics, labor epidurals), responding to emergencies, and providing analgesic services. The CRNA must be capable of planning and administering anesthesia for all ages and physical classifications. The position is located in Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin, a scenic river town in the Driftless Region known for its year-round activities.

Requirements

  • Master’s Degree in Nurse Anesthesia
  • A minimum of 2 years of autonomous practice as a CRNA
  • Computer proficiency
  • Valid WI RN License or Compact State license
  • National CRNA Certification
  • Advanced Practice Nurse Prescriber (APNP)
  • ACLS, BCLS, PALS certifications

Nice To Haves

  • Provision of pain services such as lumbar epidural steroid injections is preferred.
  • NRP certification

Responsibilities

  • Provide surgical anesthetics, including regional, specialty blocks, GETA, and Local/MAC.
  • Administer obstetric anesthesia, including intrathecal narcotics and labor epidurals.
  • Respond to emergency situations.
  • Provide analgesic services as requested and appropriate.
  • Plan and administer appropriate anesthesia services for all ages and physical classifications.
  • Perform current regional anesthesia techniques under ultrasound guidance, including adductor canal, femoral, popliteal, interscalene, and axillary blocks (single injections).
  • Administer current and safe anesthesia in an autonomous/solo environment.
  • Perform diagnostic spinal taps.
  • Perform spinal block techniques.
  • Perform epidural techniques, including lumbar and thoracic epidurals for postoperative pain management.
  • Select, order, or administer pre-anesthetic medications.
  • Evaluate the results of diagnostic tests such as radiographs (x-rays) and electrocardiograms (EKGs).
  • Perform or manage regional anesthetic techniques such as local, spinal, epidural, caudal, nerve blocks and intravenous blocks.
  • Prepare prescribed solutions and administer local, intravenous, spinal, or other anesthetics following specified methods and procedures.
  • Administer post-anesthesia medications or fluids to support patients’ cardiovascular systems.
  • Calibrate and test anesthesia equipment.
  • Evaluate patients’ post-surgical or post-anesthesia responses, taking appropriate corrective actions or requesting consultation if complications occur.
  • Select and prescribe post-anesthesia medications or treatments to patients.
  • Discharge patients from post-anesthesia care.
  • Keep abreast of developments in anesthesia by reading current literature, talking with colleagues, and participating in professional organizations or conferences.
  • Request anesthesia equipment repairs, adjustments, or safety tests.
  • Insert arterial catheters or perform arterial punctures to obtain arterial blood samples.
  • Instruct nurses, residents, interns, students or other staff on topics such as anesthetic techniques, pain management and emergency responses.
  • Assess patients’ medical histories to predict anesthesia response.
  • Respond to emergency situations by providing airway management, administering emergency fluids or drugs, or using basic or advanced cardiac life support techniques.
  • Perform pre-anesthetic screenings, including physical evaluations and patient interviews, and document results.
  • Disassemble and clean anesthesia equipment.
  • Manage patient’s airway or pulmonary status using techniques such as endotracheal intubation, mechanical ventilation, pharmacological support, respiratory therapy and extubation.
  • Select, prepare, or use equipment, monitors, supplies, or drugs for the administration of anesthetics.
  • Select, order, or administer adjuvant drugs, accessory drugs, fluids or blood products as necessary.
  • Monitor patient’s responses, including skin color, pupil dilation, pulse, heart rate, blood pressure, and respiration, ventilation, or urine output, using invasive and noninvasive techniques.
  • Obtain informed consent from patients for anesthesia procedures.
  • Perform other job duties and responsibilities as assigned to effectively meet the needs of the patients, the department, and the organization as a whole.
