The Certified/Registered Medical Assistant (CMA/RMA) works as part of the Patient Care Team, assisting providers and staff in delivering team-based medical care. The position provides limited direct patient care and performs designated independent procedures. The CMA/RMA works under the indirect supervision of an LPN, RN, or CNO; at sites without an LPN or RN, clinical supervision is provided by the provider. The role supports quality, patient-centered care in a federally qualified community health center (FQHC). The CMA/RMA communicates with patients and families, participates in care planning and team meetings, conducts routine screenings, assists with in-office tests and procedures, administers ordered medications, documents care in the Electronic Medical Record, collects and processes specimens, and performs laboratory quality-control procedures. The role also supports supply management, infection control, quality improvement, staff meetings, and ongoing learning. Physical attendance is an essential job function. The work takes place in a fast-paced office setting, often involving travel to other offices, and is designated an OSHA high-risk position.
