About The Position

The Certified Phlebotomy Technician I (CPT I) performs skin punctures and venipunctures on patients of all ages to obtain blood specimens for clinical laboratory analysis. The role works under the supervision of the Laboratory Director, Manager, or Supervisor and must meet applicable California or other state regulatory certification requirements. This is a per-diem position on the night shift.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Current and valid state certification as a CPT I.
• BLS certification within 45 days of hire and maintained current.
• Must meet applicable regulatory requirements for work in a clinical laboratory.

• A minimum of one year of clinical laboratory experience.

Responsibilities

• Perform skin punctures and venipunctures on patients of all ages to obtain blood specimens for analysis.
• Perform computer data entry, filing, telephone communication, and other clerical duties.
• Maintain adequate knowledge of laboratory test terminology.
• Communicate effectively and use proper telephone etiquette when greeting patients and visitors.
• Use proper phlebotomy techniques and equipment to collect specimens from newborns through geriatric patients.
• Process microbiology, immunology, hematology, coagulation, urinalysis, chemistry, and blood bank specimens.
• Process specimens for referral to reference laboratories.
• Stock routine supplies and maintain the cleanliness of storage areas, trays, centrifuges, refrigerators, freezers, and work areas.
• Process or load specimens on automated laboratory instrumentation according to established policies and procedures.
• Assist with picking up samples at the hospital or operating room, sorting and putting away samples, and assisting pathology.
• Assist with inventory, replenishing and ordering supplies, mail pickup and delivery, faxing, answering phones, and product deliveries.
• Perform other tasks or responsibilities assigned by the department manager or director.
