The Phlebotomy Technician III primarily performs skin puncture or venipuncture on patients of all ages for the purpose of obtaining a blood specimen for analysis in the clinical laboratory and is under the supervision of the Laboratory Director / Manager / Supervisor. This role involves computer data entry, filing, telephone communication, and other clerical duties. The technician must possess adequate knowledge of laboratory test terminology, demonstrate good communication and telephone etiquette, and utilize proper phlebotomy techniques and equipment for all age groups. Responsibilities include processing various types of specimens (microbiology, immunology, hematology, coagulation, urinalysis, chemistry, blood bank), preparing specimens for referral to reference laboratories, stocking and ordering supplies, maintaining cleanliness of work areas and equipment, and processing/loading specimens on automated laboratory instrumentation. Additional duties may include picking up samples, assisting lab specialties, pathology, and inventory, replenishing and ordering supplies, mail handling, faxing, answering phones, and managing product deliveries. The role may involve working in multiple departments, night/graveyard shifts, and resolving staffing issues. Other tasks may be assigned by management.
