Regional One Health is currently seeking a Certified Pharmacy Technician PRN for our Outpatient Pharmacy. This role involves performing various technical functions and activities related to preparing, packaging, drug distribution, and record-keeping of pharmaceuticals and controlled substances. Duties are performed on an as-needed basis as defined by PRN guidelines. The technician will provide assistance and perform technical pharmacy services under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist, in accordance with established policies and procedures. Responsibilities include preparing unit dose medications, filling unit dose carts, calculating, weighing, and compounding ingredients for non-sterile products, and preparing, labeling, and documenting IV products using aseptic techniques. The role also involves packaging and labeling all dosage forms, documenting medication orders, delivering patient medication orders, and maintaining required prescription/medication and other department records. The technician will demonstrate knowledge and skills to provide technical services and maintain clinical competency for effective patient care. This includes preparing and filling prescriptions, computing records, and crediting patients for unused drugs. The role also requires operating computerized data systems, interpreting and performing order entry functions, and utilizing computer equipment for information retrieval. Additionally, the technician will receive, transport, and store pharmacy-related items, assist in inventory control (ordering, stock rotation, return of outdated medications), maintain perpetual inventory, replenish medicine carts, restock nursing units and ancillary departments, check for outdated or contaminated drugs, and order supplies. Maintaining a safe and orderly arrangement of pharmaceuticals and supplies, cleaning and maintaining equipment, and reporting malfunctions are also key duties. Confidentiality regarding patient, department, and hospital information is essential, along with adherence to HIPAA, Confidentiality, and Compliance Policies. The technician will work effectively as an intermediary between patient care units and the pharmacy, answering calls, accepting requests, and delivering medications and supplies. Customer service and courteous interaction are expected, promoting patient satisfaction. Collaboration with medical/hospital staff and patients is required. Maintaining a safe environment by complying with safety/risk management policies and procedures, and adhering to quality improvement, safety, environment, and infection control standards are crucial. Continuous training and education, including department-specific requirements, are necessary. The technician will respond to problems, participate in performance improvement activities, provide support to pharmacy and ancillary personnel, and assist in the orientation and supervision of students. Coverage for relief and absences, including flexibility to work nights, weekends, and holidays for continuous pharmacy coverage, is required. The role also includes checking patient identification, issuing filled medications to outpatients, assisting customers with over-the-counter items, performing cashier functions, collecting payments, and responding to customer/patient inquiries.
