About The Position

Regional One Health is currently seeking a full-time Certified Pharmacy Technician for our Outpatient East Pharmacy location. Performs various technical functions and activities relating to preparing, packaging, drug distribution, record-keeping of pharmaceuticals and controlled substances. Must have National Certification such as PTCB or NHA AND TN Pharmacy Tech License to qualify.

Requirements

  • National Certification such as PTCB or NHA
  • TN Pharmacy Tech License
  • Successful completion of Pharmacy Technician program or equivalent education.
  • Registered Pharmacy Technician Upon Hire
  • Experience in patient care as obtained through completion of a Pharmacy Technician program
  • Minimum 1 year experience previous experience as Pharmacy Technician.

Responsibilities

  • Provides assistance and performs technical pharmacy services under supervision of licensed pharmacist and in accordance with established policies and procedures.
  • Packages and appropriately labels all dosage forms used in the pharmacy by using appropriate pharmacy packaging, counting and labeling equipment.
  • Documents medication orders.
  • Maintains required prescription/medication and other department records.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and skills to provide technical services and maintain clinical competency as required to effectively and efficiently provide patient care and clinical services.
  • Prepares and fills prescriptions and medication orders, maintaining appropriate legal and departmental records.
  • Reads physician’s prescribed medication orders specifying name, quantity, strength, frequency and method of administration of drugs and other pharmaceutical products.
  • Selects the medication from pre-packaged, or unit dose stock and counts the prescribed quantity.
  • Places the drug in appropriate patient medication drawer/bin.
  • Presents filled order to the Pharmacist for review.
  • Post charges into computer system from the medication administration record and other charge documents.
  • Collects appropriate payment/voucher from patient to cover cost of discharge medications prior to bedside delivery.
  • Operates computerized data systems.
  • Interprets and performs order entry functions in accordance with departmental policies and procedures.
  • Adjudicates claims and add insurance to patients’ profiles.
  • Utilizes computer and related equipment to enter and retrieve information.
  • Receives, transports and stores necessary pharmacy-related items to and from pharmacy areas as well as to and from other hospital pharmacies and nursing units as assigned.
  • Packages all verified orders for delivery to beside.
  • Scans all completed orders into the tablet for delivery signatures.
  • Receives payments and signatures from patients and/or patient’s nurse and completes all transactions at the register before delivering to the floor.
  • Provides assistance and facilitates pharmacy services under supervision of licensed pharmacist and in accordance with established policies and procedures.
  • Identifies patient using three identifiers (Name, DOB, Address).
  • Uses a tablet to facilitate a two-way video call between the patient in the hospital room and the pharmacist in the pharmacy to provide education.
  • Receives signature from patient or approved caregiver to complete delivery transaction.
  • Maintains a safe and orderly arrangement of pharmaceuticals and supplies in the pharmacy and nursing areas and maintains a clean and neat work area.
  • Utilizes supplies in a cost effective manner.
  • Cleans and maintains all pharmacy related equipment.
  • Reports malfunction of equipment to supervisor.
  • Maintains confidentiality in matters relating to patient/family, department and hospital information.
  • Adheres to established department and organization policies (i.e. HIPAA, Confidentiality, and Compliance Policies).
  • Works effectively and serves as intermediary between patient care units and pharmacy; answers calls and accepts requests; collects and delivers medication orders and any other items as assigned.
  • Interacts and communicates in a customer responsive and courteous manner and promotes patient/customer satisfaction.
  • Works collaboratively with medical/hospital staff and patients to coordinate and implement activities.
  • Communicates with nurses to check on patient’s discharge status, informs nurses and patients of their copay prior to delivery of medications, and assists with managing bedside calls and texts.
  • Maintains a clean, orderly, safe environment to minimize risk to patients and staff by complying with all safety/risk management policies and procedures.
  • Adheres to established policies, compliance/quality improvement, and safety, environment and infection control standards.
  • Completes required continuous training and education, including department specific requirements.
  • Responds to problems/opportunities to improve work environment and participates in performance improvement activities.
  • Provides support to pharmacy and other ancillary personnel to provide clinical assistance as needed.
  • Assists in the orientation and supervision of students when they provide patient care, treatment and services as part of their training.
  • Provides coverage for relief and absences.
  • Demonstrates flexibility to work night, weekend and holiday to provide continuous pharmacy coverage as required.
