About The Position

In accordance with state and federal regulations, the Certified Pharmacy Technician assists the pharmacist, under direct supervision, in the practice of pharmacy and performs other Pharmacy Department duties in accordance with Company policies and procedures. The role uses pharmacy systems to obtain patient and drug information and process prescriptions. PTCB-certified technicians may assist and coach pharmacy technicians in operating pharmacy systems and cashiers in operating pharmacy cash registers. The technician models and delivers a distinctive and delightful customer experience. The position supports pharmacy operations by entering patient and drug information, filling prescriptions, assisting with workflow and inventory, processing claims, handling appropriate telephone calls, and supporting clinical services. It also involves customer service, pharmacy department maintenance, compliance with company policies, training, and continuing development.

Requirements

Must be fluent in reading, writing, and speaking English, except in Puerto Rico.
Must be willing to work a flexible schedule, including evening and weekend hours.

Nice To Haves

Six months of experience in a retail environment.
Prior work experience with Walgreens.
Good math skills for accurately counting, measuring, and weighing medications.
Good computer skills.
Knowledge of store inventory control.
PTCB certification.

Responsibilities

Assist the pharmacist under direct supervision and in accordance with state, federal, and company policies.
Use pharmacy systems to obtain patient and drug information, enter information accurately, and process prescriptions.
Retrieve, count, and pour pharmaceutical drugs; verify medication accuracy and check for possible interactions.
Assist pharmacists with scheduling and maintaining workflow.
Report prescription errors immediately to the pharmacist on duty and follow company error-reporting and Quality Improvement Program procedures.
Follow the Walgreen Co. Pharmacy Code of Conduct and Good Faith Dispensing policy.
Register sales on the assigned cash register and collect and handle cash as required.
Engage customers and patients, answer questions, resolve issues, and help customers locate products.
Handle telephone calls that do not require the pharmacist's personal attention, including calls to physicians.
Correct and resubmit manual third-party prescription claims promptly and perform assigned clerical duties.
Support pharmacy inventory activities, including ordering, unpacking, checking, and storing pharmaceutical shipments.
Maintain knowledge of asset protection techniques and file claims for shipment overages, shortages, order errors, or damaged prescription drugs.
May assist the pharmacist with clinical services, including collecting and labeling blood or urine samples, and coordinate clinical services with pharmacy staff, Walgreens healthcare clinics, and external providers.
Help maintain relationships with the local medical community through provider detailing and outreach to healthcare groups and care facilities.
Help keep the Pharmacy Department adequately stocked, clean, neat, and orderly.
Comply with company policies and procedures and maintain respectful relationships with coworkers.
Complete special assignments and other tasks as assigned.
Earn and maintain PTCB certification through the designated training program and/or required state certification or registration; otherwise, earn PTCB certification as a condition of promotion to senior technician.
Attend training, complete requested PPLs, obtain continuing education credits, and maintain pharmacy and healthcare knowledge and skills.
