Under the supervision of a Registered Pharmacist and according to policies, procedures, and guidelines established within the organization, the department, and the Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs, the Pharmacy Technician assists pharmacists in filling prescriptions and preparing IV admixtures by interpreting, transcribing, and preparing medication(s) for dispensing. The technician will be responsible for competency in the core areas depending on the location worked (i.e., outpatient retail pharmacy, inpatient hospital pharmacy, infusion pharmacy, etc.) or shift assignment. Employees providing direct patient care must demonstrate competencies specific to the population served. The Pharmacy Technician II and III roles build upon the skills and competencies of the preceding levels as part of a professional career pathway.
