About The Position

The Certified Pharmacy Technician aids pharmacists in providing pharmaceutical care services to patients by assisting in the preparation, dispensing, record keeping, and transporting of medications for all patients including the following age groups: neonatal, pediatric, adolescence, adult, and geriatric. Under minimal supervision, this role performs the required duties of a technician at a high level of proficiency, demonstrating exemplary work behaviors and ownership for the success of the work area. This position also learns, performs and completes assignments/responsibilities assigned during the transitional duty period.

Requirements

  • Current certification by the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB)
  • Current licensure with the Virginia State Board of Pharmacy
  • Clean criminal record (i.e. no felony conviction; no drug or pharmacy related convictions, including misdemeanors; no denial, suspension, revocation, or restriction of registration or licensure by any State Board of Pharmacy)
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Must be available to work all shifts, weekends, holidays, and emergency coverage.

Responsibilities

  • Aids pharmacists in providing pharmaceutical care services to patients by assisting in the preparation, dispensing, record keeping, and transporting of medications for all patients including the following age groups: neonatal, pediatric, adolescence, adult, and geriatric.
  • Performs the required duties of a technician at a high level of proficiency, demonstrating exemplary work behaviors and ownership for the success of the work area.
  • Learns, performs and completes assignments/responsibilities assigned during the transitional duty period.
  • Performs tasks designated by the pharmacist to assist in patient care that do not legally require a pharmacist’s supervision or verification.
  • Communicates effectively with all staff members.
  • Identifies equipment or operational problems and brings them to the attention of a pharmacist or pharmacy manager.
  • Interacts with other health care practitioners in a multidisciplinary environment.
