About The Position

This position requires working in the community and performing home visits. The Certified Peer Support Specialist functions as part of a team to provide flexible services aimed at supporting persons served. They provide expertise based on their own personal experience with mental illness, often acting as a consultant to team members to help them understand the perspectives of those served. This role promotes recovery-based, person-centered, and culturally competent practices and requires a high degree of personal integrity.

Requirements

  • Must be Certified as a Peer Support Specialist (mental health), not a Recovery Specialist (addiction) or Coach.
  • Firsthand knowledge of characteristics and conditions experienced by persons served.
  • Must complete and achieve ACT 101 training by DCH.
  • Credentialing & Privileging includes General ACT, Group Therapy, Co-occurring Treatment, and Peer Services Specialist Conference.

Responsibilities

  • Embrace and support the concepts of recovery to enable the population served to reach their full potential.
  • Create awareness of powers and self-worth in others, engage persons served, and monitor their well-being.
  • Participate in the Family/Guardian/Friends Liaison Program activities to build a communication network with the natural supports of persons served.
  • Participate in building community relations and social networks that provide support, friendship, love, and hope.
  • Provide linking with transportation resources related to personal care, community living supports, employment, and planned activities.
  • Facilitate access to community resources and social support networks for persons served.
  • Document progress, or lack of progress, towards goals of persons served at the close of each shift.
  • Ensure 100% of routine/customary daily, monthly, quarterly, and/or annual internal data reports are submitted on time.
  • Be knowledgeable of contract requirements for the program/service and the Program Fidelity Model.
