About The Position

As a Peer Support Specialist you'll assist participants in crafting treatment plans, maintain open communication with referral sources, engage in staffing for seamless continuity of care, provide crisis intervention when necessary, and promote recovery and resilience. No prior experience is necessary – we provide on-the-job training!

Requirements

  • Possess a high school diploma or equivalent
  • Complete a state-approved training program and, if required, pass a standardized examination
  • Successful completion of background check including criminal record, driving record, abuse/neglect and fingerprint check.
  • Completion of New Hire Orientation at the beginning of employment.
  • All training requirements including Relias at the beginning of employment and annually thereafter.
  • Current driver’s license, acceptable driving record and current auto insurance.
  • Must be 21 years of age or older
  • Minimum one (1) year of recovery
  • Self-identify as a current or former person of mental health or substance use services OR self-identify as a person in recovery from mental health or substance use disorder (required)
  • Be at least 21 years of age

Responsibilities

  • Support, encourage, and model recovery and resilience specific to each individual's needs.
  • Provide individual or group services with a rehabilitation and recovery focus.
  • Help individuals manage psychiatric symptoms, utilize natural supports, and enhance community living.
  • Encourage clients to connect with others and their communities.
  • Assist individuals in making independent choices and taking an active role in their treatment.
  • Help individuals identify personal strengths and resources to aid in their recovery.
  • Support clients in setting and achieving their recovery goals.
