About The Position

Provide goal-directed, medically necessary peer support services to adults with severe and persistent mental illness to assist them to remain in the least restrictive environment. This role involves service provision, case management, documentation, and general administrative duties. The position requires the ability to share lived experience, model successful behaviors, and provide transportation for clients to appointments and community resource development. Documentation includes progress notes, Notes for Record, and entering no-shows/cancellations. Administrative duties include participating in team meetings, entering data, attending supervision, and traveling to sites. Continuing education is also a component of the role.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Must self-identify as a person in recovery from a behavioral health condition.
  • Must be able to achieve and maintain designation as a Certified Peer Support Specialist for the State of Kansas, including completion of all required training within 6 months of hire.
  • Meet the specifications as outlined in the CMHC/CCBHC licensing standards.
  • Pass KBI, DCF child abuse check, and adult abuse registry.
  • Must complete orientations provided by Sedgwick County and COMCARE.
  • Must have a valid US driver’s license without restrictions.
  • Must have current proof of automobile insurance.
  • Must have access to personal passenger vehicle to complete the driving duties of the position.

Responsibilities

  • Provide peer support using identified and accepted methods to remediate symptoms of mental illness and/or improve emotional and functional well-being.
  • Help consumers regain the ability to make independent choices and to take a proactive role in treatment.
  • Share “lived experience” and model successful behavior and strategies.
  • Provide transportation to support client attendance in medical appointments and other therapeutic goal related activities, including development of community resources, employment or education access, social or consumer-run activities, and related supports.
  • Complete progress notes in accordance with COMCARE and CCBHC guidelines which meet requirements for medical necessity, goal-directed treatment and client response to treatment within prescribed timelines.
  • Complete Notes for Record, Precautions statements and authorizations for release of records as required and/or recommended.
  • Enter no show and cancellations for accuracy and completeness of medical record.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary or peer team meetings to improve treatment and develop intervention strategies as needed.
  • Enter AIMS data as needed.
  • Attend staff meetings and individual/group supervision.
  • Travel to and from sites in personal transportation.
  • Identify and attend continuing education/training to enhance or expand practice and implement best practices related to the employee s area of practice within COMCARE.
