About The Position
Thrive Behavioral Network is seeking a Certified Peer Specialist for Birch Tree Center. The Mental Health Certified Peer Specialist provides individualized peer support under the treatment supervision of a mental health professional or certified rehabilitation specialist. The role promotes clients’ recovery goals, self-sufficiency, self-advocacy, and development of natural supports, while helping clients maintain skills learned through other services. Effective performance requires the ability to share personal recovery experiences and develop authentic peer-to-peer relationships. The specialist should believe in recovery, convey hope and optimism, show sincere interest in each peer’s welfare and individuality, and adapt engagement to each person’s receptivity and needs throughout their recovery process.
Requirements
- Must be or have been a consumer of behavioral health services.
- Must be certified as a Peer Specialist by the Department of Human Services.
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- Must qualify as stated in 245I.04 Subdivision 10(1-3).
- Personal belief in recovery and genuine hope and optimism that peers will succeed.
- Sincere interest in peers’ welfare, including the ability to see each person as a unique individual.
- Willingness to share personal recovery experience.
- Ability to flexibly engage people based on their receptivity and individual needs.
Responsibilities
- Provide individualized peer support to each client under the treatment supervision of a mental health professional or certified rehabilitation specialist.
- Promote clients’ recovery goals, self-sufficiency, self-advocacy, and development of natural supports.
- Support clients in maintaining skills learned from other services.
- Share personal recovery experiences and develop authentic peer-to-peer relationships.
- Flexibly engage people according to their receptivity and individual needs at different points in their recovery process.
