The Certified Peer Recovery Specialist works as part of a multidisciplinary treatment team, providing peer support, assisting with client needs, and helping individuals navigate recovery and community resources.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Registered Peer Recovery Specialist certification through the Virginia Board of Counseling at the Department of Health Professions required.
  • Ability to maintain professional boundaries and work effectively with individuals receiving behavioral health and substance use treatment services.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in treatment team meetings and provide insight based on lived experience.
  • Maintain regular communication with referral sources and provide updates on client progress.
  • Complete concurrent reviews and required medical record documentation in a timely manner.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation of client interactions and services provided.
  • Participate in Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) initiatives and peer record reviews.
  • Build and maintain professional relationships with clients, staff, referral sources, and community partners.
  • Provide transportation to help clients access essential community resources when needed.
  • Participate in emergency services duties on a rotating basis, including crisis assessments and hospital diversions.
