Certified Peer Recovery Coach

Growth Works Inc.•Wayne, MI
•$45,000 - $55,000

About The Position

Recovery Action Network of Michigan (RANMI), a peer-led Recovery Community Organization, is seeking a compassionate, resourceful, and motivated full-time Certified Peer Recovery Coach (CPRC). The organization empowers individuals and families affected by substance use by providing a safe, supportive community with hope, connection, resources, and opportunities for long-term recovery. This dynamic, community-based role provides person-centered recovery support, resource navigation, and practical assistance to individuals and families. The focus is on addressing immediate needs, reducing barriers to recovery, and connecting participants with ongoing resources rather than maintaining a traditional long-term peer coaching caseload. Work includes assisting with applications and online systems, facilitating recovery groups, participating in outreach and sober social activities, and supporting recovery center operations. CPRC certification is preferred but is not required at hire; RANMI supports eligible employees in obtaining certification.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Lived experience in recovery from a substance use disorder, with a minimum of 24 months in recovery and the ability to meet applicable MDHHS peer certification eligibility requirements.
  • Current MDHHS Certified Peer Recovery Coach (CPRC) certification or willingness and eligibility to obtain certification as a condition of employment. Uncertified candidates must apply for training promptly, enroll in an approved course within 60 days of hire (subject to availability), and complete certification within an agency-approved timeframe.
  • Demonstrated computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office or comparable applications, email, online forms, electronic documentation, file uploads, and the ability to learn new software systems.
  • Strong communication, organizational, problem-solving, and documentation skills, with the ability to manage changing priorities in a busy, community-based environment.
  • Understanding of peer recovery support principles, confidentiality, professional boundaries, trauma-informed care, harm reduction, and multiple pathways to recovery.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with diverse participants, staff, volunteers, and community partners.
  • Valid driver's license, reliable transportation, and flexibility to travel throughout Western Wayne County and work occasional evenings and weekends.
  • Ability to complete required employment screenings, orientation, and ongoing training in accordance with agency policies and applicable requirements.

Nice To Haves

  • Current MDHHS CPRC certification or additional peer recovery credentials, such as CCAR Recovery Coach training or MCBAP CPRM.
  • Experience providing peer recovery support, resource navigation, or community-based services.
  • Familiarity with Michigan recovery resources, Medicaid, housing, transportation, employment assistance, and related support services.
  • Experience with group facilitation, community outreach, overdose prevention, or services involving youth, families, and diverse populations.

Responsibilities

  • Provide welcoming, trauma-informed peer recovery support through RCC drop-in services and community-based interactions.
  • Assist participants with immediate needs, recovery goals, resource navigation, and warm referrals to community partners.
  • Provide hands-on assistance with housing, transportation, employment, healthcare, financial assistance, and related applications and online systems.
  • Support Medicaid enrollment and redetermination through portal navigation, documentation assistance, and referrals to enrollment specialists.
  • Assist with RANMI client assistance programs in accordance with established procedures.
  • Support workforce readiness and life-skills programming, including résumés, job applications, interview preparation, and digital literacy.
  • Assist with recovery education, peer workforce training, overdose prevention, and Recovery Friendly Workplace initiatives.
  • Support youth and family prevention activities, including classroom education, alternative-to-suspension programming, and family engagement.
  • Participate in street outreach, resource fairs, community events, and partner-site activities.
  • Provide overdose prevention and harm reduction education, including naloxone distribution in accordance with agency protocols.
  • Support sober social activities and recovery events that promote connection and community engagement.
  • Provide RCC drop-in coverage and maintain a welcoming, safe, and recovery-supportive environment.
  • Facilitate peer-led recovery support groups as trained and assigned.
  • Assist with coordination and on-site support for independent mutual aid groups and volunteer-led activities.
  • Maintain accurate, timely electronic documentation of participant services, referrals, outreach, and program activities.
  • Collaborate with staff, volunteers, and community partners to support participants and program operations.
  • Uphold confidentiality, professional boundaries, peer ethics, trauma-informed practices, and multiple pathways to recovery.
  • Participate in required supervision, training, and professional development.
