About The Position

Labcorp is seeking a Certified Pathology Assistant to join their team in Syracuse, NY. This is a per diem position, meaning work is as needed. The role involves performing dissections, gross descriptions, and tissue selection for microscopic examination and special studies, following departmental guidelines. Responsibilities include specimen handling, processing, and adhering to quality control policies. The assistant will also support other departmental areas after completing their primary assignments, ensuring a professional environment and identifying/correcting issues that may affect test performance or reporting. Maintaining high ethical standards, knowledge of hazardous waste management, and personal protection measures are crucial. Experience cutting frozen sections is desired.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a Biological, Chemical or a related life science
  • Completion of a NAACLS accredited PA program
  • Certified by the American Society of Clinical Pathology
  • NY state PA license required
  • Ability to handle the physical requirements of the position
  • Able to pass a standardized color blindness test

Nice To Haves

  • Experience cutting frozen sections is desired
  • 3 months or more of experience grossing small biopsies and complex surgical cases
  • 3 months or more of experience in a clinical laboratory
  • Experience in a high volume clinical laboratory environment
  • Proficient with computers; Familiarity with laboratory information systems
  • High level of attention to detail along with strong communication and organizational skills
  • Flexibility to work overtime or other shifts depending on business needs

Responsibilities

  • Perform complete dissection, gross description, selection and submission of tissue for microscopic examination and special studies following departmental guidelines
  • Follow the laboratory's procedure for specimen handling and processing
  • Adhere to the laboratory's quality control policies and procedures
  • Assist other areas rotations within the department with specified assignments in a timely manner after the assigned job has been completed
  • Ensure a professional environment is maintained
  • Identify problems that may adversely affect test performance or reporting of test results and work to correct or report the problem
  • Maintain high ethical standards and integrity in performing the assigned duties
  • Knowledge of hazardous waste management
  • Knowledge of personal protection measures and blood borne pathogens
