Lima Care Community is seeking a Full-Time Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) to join their team in Lima, OH. This position is responsible for assisting the Occupational Therapist in planning, developing, and directing occupational therapy activities. The COTA will facilitate Telehealth services, communicate with other departments, and maintain occupational therapy standards of practice. They will also be involved in interpreting therapy recommendations, participating in care conferences, and assisting with resident and family education on home programs and adaptive equipment. Accurate documentation and timely billing are crucial. The role involves administrative duties such as completing medical forms and charting, and reporting any concerns to the Director of Rehabilitation or supervising Occupational Therapist. Therapy functions include interviewing residents to evaluate daily living skills, addressing Plan of Care goals, determining appropriate treatment, and scheduling therapy services. The COTA will prepare residents for treatment, administer therapy, and adapt equipment as needed. They will promote resident participation in activities, recommend treatment modifications, and ensure notes are descriptive and follow guidelines. Individualized occupational therapy services will be provided according to the Plan of Care. The position also requires participation in staff development programs, in-service education, and workshops to stay current in the field. Safety and sanitation are paramount, requiring adherence to established safety standards, infection control procedures, and universal precautions. The COTA will ensure the therapy area is clean and safe, report hazardous conditions, and wear appropriate personal protective equipment. Equipment and supply functions include providing necessary materials, reporting needs, and operating equipment safely. Resident rights are to be honored, including the right to refuse treatment, and all HIPAA requirements must be followed. Medical concerns and changes in condition must be reported to the nurse and therapy supervisor. The working conditions involve office areas, therapy rooms, and resident rooms, with constant alertness for resident safety. The role may involve lifting residents or equipment up to 45 pounds.
